Configure networking

Public addresses, private networking and edge proxying.

  1. 01

    Public addresses

Each instance gets a dedicated IPv4 and an IPv6 address. Both are listed on the instance page.

  2. 02

    Private networking

Instances in the same region can reach each other over a private subnet, so internal traffic does not leave the node.

  3. 03

    Edge proxying

For HTTP services you can route traffic through A2Shield instead of exposing the origin address, so the instance never has to accept inbound connections directly.

  4. 04

    Firewall rules

Rules are applied per instance. Add them before you open a port publicly — a rule that allows only your own IP is a good default.
